6 Months!

On Sunday we celebrated (okay not really) Michael's 6 month birthday! I can't believe the little guy is so old already! Yesterday we visited the doctor for his 6 month checkup, and guess what, he is still a big guy, although not quite as big as I thought he would be. He now weighs 19lbs 10oz (90th percentile), is 28in long (95th percentile) and has a head circumference of 17in (75th percentile). He did well with the shots, although it was a bit of a sleepless night, but all in all we could not ask for a happier little guy. In honor of this 6 month milestone, here are a few new "tricks" Michael has learned recently.

-touching his toes- this is a really new trick (within the past 24-48 hours), Michael has discovered that he has toes, and he thinks they are hilarious. I don't know what is so funny about his toes, but every time he grabs them he laughs so hard.

-scream/yelling- this sounds awful but is generally very happy. Let's just say the kid has no volume control, he is thrilled that he has found his voice. As soon as he learns to control his tongue this kid is going to be talking up a storm (which is what you would expect given his parents).

-pivoting from side to side- Michael recently learned to pivot from side to side while on his back, he has rolled over a few times, but for the most part he just likes to roll from side to side (and not all the way over). The best ways to motivate him to do this are fluffy hand puppets, CJ (he really really wants to touch her, but hasnt gotten many opportunities), or TV (ugh). There are very few toys safe from the little guy.

-chewing- Michael loves people food, especially pears. He loves to "chew" the food.

-inch worm crawl- he cant crawl yet, but he has recently started doing an inch worm type thing across the floor. It is slow going but he can get the toys that have fallen out of reach.

-swaddling- this isnt new, but Michael still likes to be swaddled when he goes to sleep. He usually pulls his arms out within about 2 seconds on being wrapped, but doesnt move he legs too much (they stay nice a cozy). we have tried not swaddling and just using a blanket sleeper, but apparently he isnt ready. In the meantime he doesnt move much in his sleep and generally sleeps from 7pm-5am... at which point he is fed and down for another couple of hours. We have tried adjusting bedtime and that was... a fiasco, so for now this is the schedule.

-pacifier- this is one of the biggest things, since learning to use his hands better- learning to grab, transfer objects from hand to hand, and pick big things up- michael has developed an interest in his pacifier. We have been trying for months to get him to use it, but he had no interest. Now since he can chew it, put it in himself, and pick it up when it falls out, he is in love with the pacifier- he still doesnt understand how to suck the pacifier that well but he does love it- especially when he has two, one for each hand and he can put it in, take it out, put the other one in.

Happy 6 month birthday Mikey!
