I realize these arent the best pictures ever (what do you expect with pictures taken with my mac in a room with limited lighting?) but here is what i did to "fix" the living room.
The shelves have fewer frames... still quite a few but less, plus I added the lovely flowers in the pot and some of the frames have floral prints. still pretty busy but a bit more interesting and not quite as packed
the fireplace... no more frames, now we have two plants (yes they are real), 6 candles, and a mirror. Sadly the picture isnt too great so you cant tell that the little flower pots are bright green, and the candles are red, cream, and green. a little bit homey, but a little bit less boring.

Looks awesome Ashley! I can't tell what your window looks like, but if you could add color to the door/window I think it'd have a positive affect!
