Dear Readers,
I wanted to let you know about a very exciting event that is coming up (well sort of exciting). As some of you know February is American Heart Month. In celebration this friday, February 5, 2010, is National Wear Red Day. The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of heart disease in women.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. In 2006, women represented 52% of all cardiovascular disease deaths! 8.4 million american women suffered from coronary heart disease in 2006- that is more women than live in the states of utah, idaho, montana, and wyoming COMBINED!
Heart disease is a problem facing our mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and sisters! Wear red this Friday and help increase awareness!
*I feel like I have done my job as a health educator for today...

Dang! I wish I would have known earlier. I wore a red shirt yesterday and today. I will have to find something else red for Friday.
As one of the 8.4 million women, I appriciate your adding to the awareness. I don't own a red dress so I guess pink will have to do for me. I might add: I inherited my heart disease, so my grandaughters need to know that I may have passed it on to them.
I'll definitely be sure to wear my red on Friday! Thanks for being such a great health educator. :) And I do love my heart!
