Advice

Dear Readers,
I need some advice. Below are snapshots of our living room. It needs a little bit of help. I blame it on the fact that I just moved in, i dont know anything about design, and I am just not that creative. Anyway I need advice on how to spice this area up. What can i do to make it cute, colorful, and functional? The colors are red and green, I have the pillows and the curtains, but I am up for suggestions on paint colors, decorative accents, and even cheesy little knick knacks, so what should I do? I know i have too many frames, but i am just using them until i find something better, any advice on the something better?

you should get a mirror or a big picture to hang over your mantle (maybe even a big clock). i'm not a decorator, but i think some large and substantial would fill that wall nicely.

You have seen my house... enough said. But I think that it looks good!

You've done a great job so far, don't pretend you haven't :) From what I can see, the only big problem is that you have tons of framed pictures stacked on shelves, but then big open space around them where there isn't any hanging art or points of interest like mirrors and such. If it were me, I would either find something to break up some space on the wall like a large painting/mirror, or in the mean time, put fewer picture frames on the shelves so there isn't such an extreme difference between the empty space and the filled space.

Oh, and plants! That's what's missing from your home! You need to invest in a few good looking pots and find some plants that fill the spaces with green, life, and interesting shapes. You'd be amazed what a few living things will do to make your space more welcoming.
