I like to dress up for Halloween. I know that doesnt match with my uptight hate to draw attention to myself personality, but I admit it, I like to dress up for Halloween. In addition to dressing up I think that it is adorable, yes adorable, when families dress up in themed costumes.
A couple of months ago I saw a baby costume for Mr. Frederickson, you know the little old man from UP! and I know that was what we were going to be. The only problem was coming up with costumes for Brian and me- enter Russell and Kevin (no need for Doug). While I have seen some versions of this online that turned out more accurate than ours I will say I do think we turned out pretty cute given our amateur costume making skills.
Love the walker! Our Mr. Frederickson did have glasses (we tried to be pretty realistic), we even spray painted them black to match, but sadly no amount of convincing would get him to leave them on long enough to take a photo. The walker didnt last long either, but at least we got one picture.
Our plan was the tie a ton of balloons to the van (trunk or treat) to go with the UP! theme, but sadly due to world wide helium shortage (yeah that appears to be real) we were lucky even to get these little balloons for Michael! We'll see if we can get more for Halloween, cross your fingers for us.just like in the movie Mr. Frederickson wasnt the biggest fan of Kevin.
He wanted to chase the balloons, not take a photo.
see no photos needed.
A little bit of photoshop needed to remove the lense flare, but go with it, Kevin and Mr. Fredrickson are both looking in a similar direction.
If you are asking yourself how we made these awesome costumes, let me just share.
Kevin: tutu- 6-10 yards of orange, blue, yellow, and hot pink tulle. Shirt- blue, orange, yellow, and hot pink felt feather glued to an old t shirt. and the hat... oh the hat- a plastic mask covered in felt, with a beak cut out of a cereal box covered in orange foam... yeah just that classy.
Mr. Frederickson: sweater, shirt, shoes, and pants that we own (aka church outfit), one bowtie made from directions found on pinterest, sunglasses spray painted black with the lenses popped out, and the best part, and little walker made of tennis balls and pvc and spray painted gray. Oh and the balloons... seriously hoping I can get some helium this week.
Russell: our scout uniform (thanks mom!) including sash, handkerchief, claspy thing, and shirt. Green paints, work boots, a flag (made from yellow felt leftover from last years mustard costume) and a dowel, and an old hat with a felt patch to make him into a real Wilderness Explorer.
That's right, so I think our total cost was maybe $30, if you factor in the sweater I bought Michael, the kevin supplies, the walker, and of course the difficult to find balloons.
Did I mention that he wasnt a fan of the walker? yes we know Mr. Frederickson actually used a cane, but please give a 1 year old a cane... yeah it would become something he used to hit things, not some much a fan of that idea.
I told you, Mr. Frederickson does not like Kevin.
Ok he was fine with Kevin he just really hates having to sit still cna get his picture taken. This picture shows it a bit, his hair was grey... more needed, but a little bit grey was funny.
Love that he had so much funny running around with the balloons behind him.
This was about the time when he realized that people had candy, he hadnt realized that they might share, just that they had it.
See the white shows up a bit in his hair... oh wouldnt the glasses have been adorable.
Come on mom! This was about the time he realized other kids were getting candy. dont you love the elbow patches. LOVE
Why push a walker when you can push a stroller.... hmmm.
or you can just get pushed around...
we thought attaching the walker to the stroller might work out better, it didnt he didnt want it near him. dont worry, I am thinking of ways to get around this for Wednesday night.
Trying to kick the walker off.
one minute of the walker, too bad no glasses!
See the frustration
and now anger
After he went trunk or treating came the best part... eating the candy while being crazy in the back of the balloon filled van... yes that was the best part.
second best part was being crazy, while eating a lollypop, and waving the people out the window.
We tried to capture another moment of Kevin and Mr. Frederickson, mistakenly thinking that a sucker would help... still wrong the sugar just made him more crazy!
This may be one of the creepiest pictures I have ever seen of myself... but both Kevin and Mr. Frederickson were looking... so we'll take it, at least until we try and take more photos in a few days.
On the way home he got to play with a water cup, that may have actually been the best part of his evening.
Until Halloween, we hope that your weekend was as lovely as ours, and wish us the best of luck tracking down those balloons. Oh and also cross your fingers that Brian can get home in time to trick or treat a few houses, because trick or treating without Daddy... cant see him loving that.
