Two Projects Done!

So lately I have been thinking our living area needs a facelift, not a big one, but something. I cant get away from the red and green because even though they clash and look like christmas, I love these two colors and keep hoping that they will look good together at my house. Anyway so we needed a few new ideas. After wasting more time than I care to admit on pinterest I came up with a few ideas, more still to come, but these are what I have been able to get through.

Silhouettes
When I started seeing silhouettes on pinterest I was intrigued. This seemed like a fun and different way to display pictures, and hey it's a little bit artsy so that is cool(ish). If you have been to our house you know the living room is overloaded with framed photos, see these are cheap and I have a really hard time buying "art" or spending a lot on knick knacks. Anyway we need to move away from that, plus you have to change out framed photos way too often, these are just artsy enough that I can change them... when I remember.

So I saw silhouettes on pinterest and I started thinking. Most of the ones I had seen were done by taking a photo and editing it in photoshop, since I am not skilled in photoshop and did I mention I dont have the program I had to find another way. And then I saw something that said you could just cut it out... PERFECT!

So this is what I did:

1. found a profile view photo of each of us, cropped it to exclude all the extras, and printed it as a 5x7 (on my printer at home).

2. taped each of the photos of a piece of black cardstock and cut around the outline.

3. glued each black silhouette to a piece of white paper and framed them.

I did have to go buy the frames at Hobby Lobby (well I had one), but I thought the ovals made them look better... you know more like someone did this project with more than a pair of scissors and tape. Anyway I love them (for now), I'm just not sure they are going to stay right here.

Curtain Tie Back
I have been hating our curtains lately, so much so that I have seriously considered taking them down until I can replace them. I have hunted for fabric to make new curtains, but no luck so far. I am looking for something red and green, so if you see anything let me know. Anyway in order to live with these curtains I knew I would have to come up with something. Then I saw this pattern for a tieback and thought... hm... seems simple enough.

I hunted through my fabric scraps, came up with just enough to make these. The pattern called for covered buttons, and wouldnt you guess I had a pack, I think my grandma gave them to me, so I made those too. I'm going to continue to hunt for the perfect fabric for new curtains, but in the meantime I think I can live with these until I find what I am looking for.
I know the pillows have got to go, I need to come up with something new, dont worry I found ideas on pinterest. The thing i need help with is mantle decor, ideas (cheap ideas please)?
