This past week I have decided it is about time to branch out with my cooking. Thanks to a recent edition of Summer Entertaining (ATK of course) and the fabulous deals I found at Deals to Meals I was ready to try a few things.
One of the things I had to try was turkey burgers. Ground turkey was recently on sale at one of our local grocery stores and I bought some to try. Turkey burger day was the best day at the hospital cafeteria where I spent a good portion of the last 6 months (have you ever eaten in a hospital cafeteria, trust me this was the best option) so I was eager to try turkey burgers at home, afterall if the hospital could handle it why couldnt I?
I did a bit of research and actually found 3 ATK turkey burger recipes. I took what I liked from each of them and added a bit more, but all in all I think this was a success.
Turkey Burgers
makes 4 burgers
1lb ground turkey (85-90% lean, anything leaner will require additional ingredients not included in this recipe)
2 t worchetershire sauce (however you spell this... spell check doesnt know either)
1t dijon mustard
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1/2 t garlic powder
1/2 t onion powder
shredded cheese (I used this as a binding agent)
Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl, mix (with your hands) until ingredients are evenly combined.
Make 4 balls, flatten into 3/4 inch tall patties
Heat 1 T oil in a stainless steel skillet until shimmering. Place patties in skillet and cover.
Cook on medium for approximately 4 minutes or until bottom is dark brown (flip only once!).
Flip burgers and continue cooking until internal temperature reaches 160. Serve immediately.
FYI I realize you cant see the burger in the picture... I may have gotten a bit too much lettuce.
