Today we took webcams to a whole new level, we talked to Brian's brother, and his cute kids, and Brian's grandparents. It was so fun to see and talk to everyone even though we live so far away. Thanks guys and we miss you tons! Yay for webcam!

Dinner with the Fam... 1440 miles away
It's no secret to any of the readers of this blog that I really like to spend time with my family. I like to just hang out, cook, eat, watch movies, basically do nothing, unfortunately doing this on a daily or even monthly basis is not a reality. We live over 1000 miles away from them, in order to get to them you have to pass through texas (obviously since we live in texas), if you have have ever driven through texas you know this isnt a small task, so we had to find another solution to traveling to spend time with them. We tried cellphones, and those worked fine, believe me I have run up the "in" calling minutes over the last few years, but there was something missing. We recently ran across the best solution yet-webcams. The great thing about the web cam is not only can you see what the other person is doing, but you can see what everyone else in the room with that person is doing- when talking to my family this is a big deal. Not only do I talk to my little brother, but I can see my sister baking away in the corner, and my parents chatting. The other night I watched my brother and sister photoshop pictures, something I would never have been able to do on the phone. Sure the image isnt always the clearest, and there is a delay on the sound, and yes I do feel like I am shouting at the computer, but still it is nice to feel like I am there with them. The other night we decided to have "dinner with the fam". We ate our dinner while they ate theirs, we set our webcam up at one end of the table, they set theirs up on the other end of their table, and it almost felt like we were there, we got to participate in the dinner conversation, the cleanup, and since I cooked dinner at the same time they did it was almost like we cooked dinner together (except that we had baked chicken and lemon potatoes and they had delicious calzones). I think this is as close as we can get from this far away.

Webcams are fantastic...Christmas morning we had my in-laws open their presents while the camera was on so we could see their reaction...then they just did their normal kitchen chores and chatted with us while they did it...it was awesome.
webcams are the way of the future :-)
