While Michael was playing on the floor this evening I noticed something... concerning. Maybe concerning isn't quite the right word, I noticed something that made me pause and think, "oh no!" About a month ago Michael rolled from his tummy to his back for the first time. He did it twice the first night and then didnt again until last week. I want to say it is because he "forgot" how, but after a closer examination I don't think that is quite it, I noticed that when he was on his tummy and about to roll (I mean just about it) he would quickly grab on to something or throw his weight to the other side so instead of rolling over he righted himself. I don't think he realizes that learning to roll all the way over will greatly improve his mobility. Anyway, since he learned to roll over he has enjoyed tummy time a lot more, and he has developed an interest in his toys, so much so that if the toys are put out of reach he will find a way to get to them. For example, before this photo was taken Michael was facing the opposite way, but he somehow scooted around in a circle so that he could get to his toys. The crinkly blocks are an especially great motivator, since he loves to bite them. Okay back to the story, so I knew that he could somehow scoot to get to what he wanted, but from looking at him I couldnt figure out how exactly he was getting anywhere, he method of moving seemed to be well... nothing, but somehow it was working. Tonight I noticed that not only does he scoot, but he is starting to move his knees up, he isnt crawling, but there definitely is some indication that we are headed down that path (hence the oh no!). I wonder if he will start rolling over more before he crawls, my guess is no.
