Silver Linings

Today started out as not a great day. Based on my post history it seems that we have a lot of those around here, but that just isnt true. Most days are good, but I remember to post about the bad(ish) ones so I can go back and say, "yeah, that wasnt a bad day". Anyway, so today got off to a rocky start. Remember how Michael fell asleep at 3:45pm? Well he didnt wake up until 3:45am, he was exhausted! But when he woke up he was in that transitional state between awake and asleep and that meant LOTS of frustrated yell crying, he slept on and off until 7am and then we decided to call it quits and start the day... this is where things went sour. So I noticed that feeding Michael was a little bit painful the other day, more painful yesterday, and really really painful this morning... not good, 4 months in and no issues means there is something wrong when it hurts, so I started looking up symptoms, and about 10 minutes into that search I realized that not going to the doctor wasnt really an option. So I tried to find a doctor, I called my OB, but she wasnt in and her partner couldnt call me back until he was done with his patients (in fairness if i were one of the patients on the schedule I would appreciate this), I called the pediatrician to see if they knew of anyone near us- they of course didnt, and Bri called urgent care places for me (thanks bri!). After a lot of frustration I got an appointment with a new office right near us, we headed over, had an appointment, have medicine to fix the problem (we hope) and went on our merry way. The doctor not only gave us medicine, but told us how to help reduce incidence in the future and help with the discomfort until the medicine works... so helpful! Hopefully the medicine helps, but the real silver lining is that I loved the doctor I saw- she was great, I am switching doctors (not that anyone needs to know that), she was so nice, willing to do research and contact other healthcare providers (aka lactation consultants) when she didnt know the answer, took the time to get a medical history, and did I mention she is close... yeah that is a major plus since my other doctor was a good 45-50 minutes away. So if you happen to need an OB/GYN in the area I highly recommend Dr. J. Newton at Women'sLink (right next to Chiloso)- she is fantastic!
Yay for silver linings, health insurance, and modern medicine!
