Sometimes stupid things save the day, things like a 25 cent ice cream cone at Macey’s, or a bowl of butter lover’s microwave popcorn. To most people these things are ridiculous, even to you on a normal day these things are insignificant, but sometimes that ice cream cone makes all the difference between having a meltdown and having an okay day. I have noticed that while we have been in NYC there have been quite a few things that have “saved the day”. I am not sure if I am just noticing more of these things, or maybe there are just more meltdown days here, but it seems like there have been quite a few small things that have saved the day. I noticed two things that made today a thousand times better than it could have otherwise been (not that today was a bad day at all, these things were just the cherry on top). Today was a hot day, now I know those of you in California and Utah are laughing at me when I say “hot” but it was, it is currently 85 at 9pm, and it is humid, it’s sticky, there are tons of bugs, and did I mention we don’t have AC? We decided to go and get some ice cream tonight, and let me just say that $1 container made this unbearably hot sticky night 1000 times better. Okay the second “small wonder” is actually two things- two things to combat itching. As I mentioned there are quite a few bugs here, bugs are attracted to me, if there is one bug in the room it will bite me, let’s just say I look like I have had some weird type of pox all summer, but a few weeks ago I found some anti itch stuff- one made from ammonia (yes it smells lovely) that burns like crazy (it takes away the itch), and another that numbs the area (a mild form of what they give you when you get stitches)- life without would be unbearably itchy. So tonight as I was making dinner (and getting eaten alive) I realized that although I was itching and swelling like crazy (I have purple blotches all over my legs now) relief is in sight, as Dr. Thackeray would say…. Life is Good!
