Brian's First Rant

So, Ashley's been asking me for a while to make a post on our blog. Out of sheer laziness, I kept making excuses of why I shouldn't. What could I share that anyone cares about? I'm an accountant; I'm not all that interesting. People don't usually care to hear much about accounting, because, honestly, accounting doesn't affect their lives.

At least no one cared until last September when everyone started talking about how the world was going to end, because the economy was collapsing. A few people came to me asking what happened, and I had a hard time explaining it. I kept finding myself slipping into accounting geek language (CDOs, leverage, commercial paper, fed funds rate, etc.). Soon people would bore and stop listening. That's one major problem with our current economy. The cause of the situation is so complicated, and people are drawn to simplified, inaccurate conclusions: capitalism is a failed system, we just need more govt. control, CEOs are robbing from the poor (Michael Moore's conclusion), or my favorite: the evil shadow government caused it to make more money…

Last night a friend's blog introduced me to a short video that explains what caused this crisis in a clear, simple way. It's not too long, and it's not political. I promise I'm not Rick Rolling you.

On a happier note, our house got framed this weekend!

I liked the video. I THINK I have a better understanding of the situation now.

Hooray for the framing-on the foundation-on the mud! It sure isn't like Utah's sandy soil there in Dallas, is it.

Keep your "rantings" coming.
