Barack's Rock
Whether or not you agree with First Lady, Michelle Obama's political views you have to admit she is an impressive lady, which is why I found recent coverage of her disappointing at best. What has the media been saying about this ivy league educated, mother of two? You would think they would be talking about how she was saving starving children, taking her girls to soccer practice, and looking into buying the promised puppy, instead focus has been centered on her inaugural gown. And horror of horrors, as of a few days ago Michelle had yet to reveal who she was wearing on Tuesday night, she even went so far as to admit she had been too busy to pick something out, and suggest she might wear, can you believe it something off the rack! Is it just me or is this sad? In my opinion it's sad that we have taken a powerful, accomplished woman and boiled her down to the clothes that she wears on one night. Why I am surprised? Fashion has always taken center stage, remember Hilary's headband during the 1992 campaign? The dreaded pants suit? Sarah Palin's wardrobe? and of course the revelation that Michelle Obama shops at J. Crew, Target, and Black and White? Why do we care? Does knowing who and what they wear somehow make us friends? Sure I can go out and buy the same sweater set Michelle has from J Crew, but that doesn't make me a lawyer, her lunch buddy, or even her daughter's babysitter? Nope, I am still just me, but with $100 fewer dollars. I am sure tomorrow there will be critiques of her outfit, we have seen it before, no one took more crap than Hilary for wardrobe no nos but at the end of the day does the First Lady's wardrobe make her any more or less intelligent? No, so let's focus on other things, like what her husband does as President of the United States
