Some things make you thankful for what you have. I spent this last weekend in Dallas (I am actually on American Airlines on my way home as I write this, so greetings from the friendly skies), and my experience there got me to thinking about what I am grateful for. If you know me well (which you do, because why else would you be reading this blog) you know that I am not a very emotional person, Brian might disagree, but I think this is generally true. I thought we all needed a small dose of gratitude, so here is a short list of what I am thankful for tonight, they are in no particular order, and I realize some things may not be included but I am tired and not thinking super clearly.
-I am grateful for a husband that is responsible, logical, and plans for the future. I am grateful that he works hard to provide for us and for our future family (don’t get any ideas). I am grateful that he is willing to make sacrifices so that we can have a secure future. I am grateful for a husband that challenges me, values my opinion, and enjoys sharing what he has learned with me (even if accounting so isn’t my cup of tea).
-I am grateful for parents that expected me to succeed. I am grateful that they recognized my potential and encouraged me to reach it, even when I was discouraged. I am grateful for their examples of “prudent” living. I am glad that they were smart enough to know that children don’t “need” everything, and that they instilled good values and morals in their children. I am grateful for the relationship that we are able to enjoy (now that I am not 17, and can communicate without yelling), and I am grateful that they put up with me, since I know I was a “bit” difficult. I am grateful for their foresight to make the effort to create a strong family bond even when we all resisted (dinner with you parents just isn’t cool when you are 15).
-I am grateful for three fantastic siblings. I am thankful for their friendships and I am happy to count them among my closest friends.
-I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to receive a college education. It has not been easy by any stretch of the imagination, but it has been worth it (it is extra nice that I am writing this blog instead of doing hw, but oh well).
-I am grateful for an extended family that reminds me of where I have come from, what is expected of me, and that I wasn’t always this cool (you just cant be cool when you are “Mousy”).
-I am grateful for “the Suker’s” who have “encouraged” me to step out of my comfort zone and enter a new stage of life. I am especially grateful for Jacob and Alayna, who have shown me that little kids aren’t as scary as I thought. I am grateful for a sister-in-law that explained to me why the “married side” is the “best side to be on”.
-I am grateful for good friends who have added a little “color” and excitement to our lives. Really guys who else would spice up our lives…
I hope that all of you survived that semi-mushy blog, no worries there wont be another one for quite awhile… you survived.
