Getting a new phone number is always a pain. Not only do you have to remember a new number (not my forte), but often you get to deal with the previous owners contacts. I got a new number around the holidays. At first it wasnt too much trouble, but over time it has become a royal pain. See the thing is that the person who had my number previously isnt what I would call an "upstanding" citizen. I get the pleasure of speaking with creditors daily, often multiple times a day and in a new fun twist, have even had the pleasure of speaking to the police about a warrant out for this person's arrest Fan-freaking-tastic. I love geting a new number. The last phone number I had belonged to an older woman, sometimes Walgreens would call to let me know that her prescription was ready, but that was rarely, and less annoying. Now these calls come multiple times a day, and let's face it, speaking with the police, is somewhat more frightening than listening to the Walgreen's recording. Come on previous owner- just pay your Visa bill!
Along the same lines, we have recently experienced an increased frequency of "wrong numbers" and every time we do I have to wonder if the people leaving the message need their hearing checked. See here's the thing, if a recording leaves a voicemail you know they couldnt differentiate, but if a person leaves a voicemail you have to wonder about them- did they not hear the recording? Did they think it was a lie? Did they just not want to believe that their friend/enemy wasnt the person receiving the message? Why even leave a message? Does the person leaving the message think that because i now have that person's number we have a bond, and I can track them down even though their friend, bank, and mother cant? Do NOT leave messages for wrong numbers- it is just irritating!

I TOTALLY understand. When I got my new number in DC I spent YEARS (maybe that's not very reassuring :-) ) getting rid of those callers! Mine were mostly angry creditors, Blockbuster, and horny old men...
