New York

The pornographic picture- not really sure this is something I would put above a fireplace.

Waiting for the subway (we found out it is not called the Metro, it is just the subway)
This is where I will be working this summer (not on the ground floor but in this building)

Grand Central and yet another attractive picture of me.

This is for Mug and Kurtis, I guess there is a play, not sure who sees it but we thought you guys would like to know.
Times Square
Times Square, if you look closely at the lowest TV screen you will notice Glenn Beck, not my favorite person but Brian was excited.

When we went to Target today there was a Public Health campaign going on (I wish I had a sticker to give them). EMTs were taking people's blood pressure and if it was higher than it should have been they were encouraging them to go see their doctor about ways to lower it. I was excited about it so we got in line and got our blood pressure taken- mine was 98/60, and Brian's was 118/82. After we finished they gave us a bag filled with stuff including a recipe book, a podometer, an FM tuner (with batteries and headphones), a water bottle, and holder, and a button.

We made it to NYC last night- I am sure you were all extremely concerned. Out flight was pretty uneventful- the only odd thing was that we flew from CA back to Utah and then to JFK, we ended up not sitting next to each other from Utah to JFK. Upon landing in NY we were promptly introduced to... New Yorkers. Let me explain, it was pretty foggy when we landed, so foggy that the pilot missed the gate- he ended up farther down the runway than he thought he was, and we had to be "towed" into the gate, no big deal, not even really a delay, but since everyone stood up and reached for their bags as soon as the plane stopped we had a few issues. The flight attendants asked everyone to sit down and people were pretty nice about it, within about a minute everyone was back in their seats- everyone that is except for one person. They asked again and the guy pretended not to hear, the other people on the plane started to yell at him (we couldnt be towed in until everyone sat down) and then the pilot got on and asked everyone to sit, he sat in the middle of the aisle (which was not his assigned seat) and got into a "slight altercation" with the flight attendant, finally he went back to his seat to pout and we were towed in. So after all that hassal we made it to baggage claim, both of out bags had some issues (broken) so that was fun and we headed off to get a taxi. Keep in mind that we landed around 11pm, by the time we went to get a taxi it was a little after 12am, but the line was HUGE! We got in line and who should be standing a few rows ahead of us but our dear friend from the plane. He was trying to cut in line (good luck) and causing all sorts of problems, eventually he was lucky enough to steal someone else's cab and the dispatcher told the driver not to go anywhere because he had to wait in line- that went over like a lead balloon, but we got a cab before we found out anymore.  So we got a cab, our driver said he couldnt lift bags becuase of a medical problems (I am trying to be sympathetic but maybe he shouldnt have been the one picking people up at the airports, he could have hung out in Times Square, near Grand Central- you know places without luggage). He spoke... pretty much no english, which is great but slightly difficult when you are trying to give an address, after arguing with him that yes the address really was in Brooklyn we headed off. Something to keep in mind about NYC taxis they go FAST. Brian gave the driver step by step instructions to our apartment (which I am sure he was not thrilled about) and we finally made it.

Since I hadnt seen pictures of our apartment before so I didnt really know what to expect, I guess it is fine (it could be much worse) but I am grateful that I dont have to live here permanently- I think I am biased, I like new places and there are very few new places in NYC, we are hear for 2 weeks and then heading off to Queens (we are in Brooklyn). One thing our landlord failed to mention was the pornography she keeps up as art (I am all for art but this was actually pornography) after taking that down (within the first 2 seconds) I think we are settled in for the next 2 weeks. The girl that lives here is very "eco friendly" she has all these special soaps and cleaning products (that I am sure dont work) but we are saving the planet for the next few weeks.

Today we decided to head out and get the things we needed (real soap, normal toilet paper, a new blanket). Sadly NYC is not as Walmart friendly as other places so we had to find an alternative, we found Target, we thought great pretty much one stop shopping (minus groceries), wrong, we did get what we needed but getting there was a problem, the train we needed to take was closed, and the subway stations are not always clearly labeled, we finally made to Target and got all of our stuff and trekked home.

After Target we decided we needed some food- we saw a supermarket and headed over. It was a supermarket, nothing too exciting except the aisles were so narrow- shopping carts were more of a hinderance than a help. After considering the cost and the weight of items we trekked home with our groceries. I am starting to think that there is no way that New Yorkers can have a problem with obesity with all the walking and hauling they do (obviously I am wrong about that). After grocery shopping we headed to Manhattan- nothing to thrilling about that trip- we went to Grand Central and Times Square- both busy, both touristy. More to come.

I know you are not loving New York and its inconveniences, but please soak it in for me because I would give my left arm to live there. Keep the stories coming!!
