"Green" Personal Care Products

There is a big movement in NYC towards organic foods and environmentally friendly products. As previously mentioned I am not a fan of the recycled paper toilet paper or "green" cleaning products (I dont think lavender extract cleans the same way clorox does). Today I heard about a movement here in the city to stop using shampoo and face wash... does anyone know if this works? I am not going to try it- I love my Sauve (yes it is cheap) and Irish Spring (yes it is boy soap) too much to do this, plus I like being clean, but hm... another interesting New York idea, not sure how I feel about it.
