This is a venting blog, if you want to read something happy and uplifting you need to stop reading. If you continue reading and you are offended and annoyed by the following post I'm sorry, keep you angry comments to yourself and pay attention to my warnings from now on.
Some things make me want to scream. Let me explain, I think I am a fairly competent individual. Somehow I managed to graduate from high school and college, and in about 18 months I will have a Masters degree (in a useful field). I can dress myself in “matching” clothes, I pay my bills on time, I keep my apartment fairly clean, I don’t bounce checks, I show up on time for work every day, I haven’t poisoned Brian with my cooking yet, I survived an internship in a “tough” situation, I maneuvered Dallas traffic during rush hour, I can read fairly quickly, and let’s face it I have survived to be 22. So why do people talk to me like I am missing 90% of my brain cells? Do I look stupid, do I have a sign on my back that I don’t know about? This is what makes me want to scream. I HATE it when people talk to me like I am stupid, I hate it when they over explain themselves, when they talk very slowly for my benefit, or when they ask if I understand when things are incredibly simple, simple enough that a third grader can successfully complete the task with limited direction and supervision (not that I have anything against third graders, and I think they are really smart but really). So to all of you (not that you need this message I just need to vent or kick someone in the face, I think I am going to go with the first one) please be respectful to customer service people, waiters/waitresses, secretaries, and cashiers. I know some of them aren’t too bright (seriously there is a reason that many of them aren’t performing surgeries), but some of them are just doing that job so they can pay to do bigger and better things. This makes me want to get a Ph.D, DrPH, or MD (maybe an MD is a bit ambitious for me), so people have to call me Doctor and I can squish all the obnoxious people and so people have no doubt that I am at least a functioning adult. Whew… okay I am a little bit less annoyed. I hope that you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

I don't think I would dare talk "down" to you! You are in a league of your own. A funny thing you will be able to request from people is this...If a DR insists you call him Dr. You will in 18 months be able to request to have him call you "Master!" So you win.
Thanks for posting. I understand what you mean. In the beginning of my time as a secretary for the business management dept, some of the professors treated me like I was dumb, but eventually they learned that I was quite competent and they didn't need to speak slowly or overexplain themselves. I think it's funny that you used the phrase "kick someone in the face." Kyle likes to say that when he's really upset at someone.
Ashley, I love you more and more with every one of your posts. This post proves once again that you and Brian are perfect together and that you make a GREAT addition to our family. I couldn't agree with you more! There is nothing more frustrating than people who don't have the common decency not talk down to others. You married into a family of individuals who have all at one time or another worked in customer service and feel the same way you do. In my college C/S job I often found myself smiling while cursing customers under my breath. It was very therapeutic!!
