I recently heard about a documentary called The Business of Being Born. Have any of your watched it, heard about it? I heard it is about home births, Any thoughts... I am not sure how I feel about this topic, I am sure that I will have all my children in a hospital (I am a pretty nervous person and I cant think outside the box), but I really want to hear your thoughts about natural childbirth and the film. I ordered it from blockbuster so I will let you know what I think after I see it.

I haven't watched it (yet), but I just googled it and watched the trailer and started reading about it. This is my personal opinion:
1. The delivery of my baby (location, doctor, etc.) is largely determined by my insurance, so I'll go where they will pay. (For example, with BYU insurance I will be having my baby at UVRMC delivered by the Provo Ob.)
2. While this movie may do a great job of encouraging people to have control over the birthing process, I think that people need to understand that they must have Certified Nurse Midwives (not just anyone who labels herself a "midwife") and a joint obstetrician (just incase) take care of them.
3. I understand that the US has one of the highest rates of C section in the world, but is there actual evidence that it's because the hospital wants laboring women in and out? Maybe I should research it...
4. I want to deliver my baby in the hospital so that the most advanced technology is at my fingertips in the event that I or my baby need it.
5. Women have the right to have control over childbirth (google "Rights of Childbearing Women" to see the bill of rights document), even in a hospital setting. To remain in control of labor and delivery, I am going to create a birth plan (see http://www.birthplan.com/) and post it up for all my nurses and doctors to see.
Those are my thoughts for now. Hope you enjoyed!
