The Morning News
Since I started traveling a couple of weeks ago I have been spending a lot of time in hotels. One thing that bothers me about hotels (besides that I am not at home) is that they are very quiet. In an effort to bring some life to a lifeless room I turn the TV on as I get ready in the morning. Sadly, the only thing on as I get ready is the morning news- specifically shows like Good Morning America. I will admit that I like the news, I like to know what is going on in the world. I am not as well versed in current events as Brian (who keeps up religiously) but I like to think that I have some idea of what is happening. I was born and raised (not born but you get the idea) on NPR. I love the news, the anaylsis and the jazz music that holds the whole thing together- morning news shows are nothing like this. The actual news takes up about 2 minutes, the rest is filled with fluff stories like Oprah finding her sister, Michael Jackson's mom raising his kids, the lady that fell into the fountain while texting, puppies that like to play with kittens, etc. The actual news is limited to one good sound bite (if that), and then the fluff takes over. I know the networks make this junk because people watch it, but what i want to know is why people watch it? Granted I am one of those people now, but why isnt there information on the economy, the latest happenings in congress, really information on anything that matters? I wish morning edition had a morning tv show- i think my day would get off to a much better and much more informed start with Steve Inskeep and the rest of the gang.
